Google My Business: Ground Zero for Online Marketing

Ground Zero, the foundation for every business that wants to be found online is Google My Business.  It's the first thing I recommend to all starting-up business owners.  There are a lot of online tutorials for how to access your My Business listing page but basically once you are logged into your Google Account, search for the 'My Business' icon and you'll be directed to your main page.  From there, it is relatively straightforward to follow each of the steps to completely and accurately set up your My Business page.

From your My Business page, your Google Reviews are visible and accessible.  Your online reputation matters.  Both to the search engines and to real people.  Ask for reviews and respond to them right from your My Business Page.

Build up your content two ways on your My Business page.  First, upload photos and videos.  They can be of anything related to your business.  The more content you post, the more of an authority you become and again that benefits both your customers and the search engines.

Second, you can create posts.  Like blog posts, you can share your opinion on various topics related to your business.  Take advantage of this feature with regular updates.

There are other valuable features available and as you gain experience, you'll learn how to take advantage of them.  For more on Google My Business, here's an informative infographic:

Connecting in Micro-Moments

The moment of truth.  More correctly, the 'moments' that trigger action that keep marketers up at night.  At least they do for me. It's the daily conversation with Managers and Business Owners revolving around how to generate more traffic to our websites and convert more of that traffic into leads.

Conversations with our website partners go something like this, "We need to optimize both our organic and paid search traffic...how do we add or improve calls-to-action so that we increase the opportunity of the Searcher to contact us directly?"

At a recent event hosted by 6S Marketing and Google, we dug into this more deeply with three key insights:

  1. The four micro-moments are, I want to know, I want to go, I want to buy, I want to do.
  2. The force of mobile in triggering follow-up actions
  3. The speed at which conversions occur in mobile searches:  It's fast!
Moving forward my challenge to our website and online advertising partners is to bring solutions that will encourage a higher percentage of visitors to our websites to find what they are looking for faster...from their mobile devices.

I found this slide very interesting:  75% of mobile searches trigger follow-up actions.  It leaves no doubt that we are now living in a 'give it to me now' world!

In the Automotive Retail business we talk about best in class response times of less than 15 minutes. Knowing that the majority of searches are happening via mobile devices and that conversions happen with the hour drives home the need for speed.

I want to know;  I want to go;  I want to buy;   I want to do.

Automotive Marketing Trends

1 in 3 auto shoppers perform a mobile action while physically on a dealership lot.  These potential customers are getting real-time information about the vehicle they are considering while closing in on their purchase decision.  How well the Dealership website serves up the information the shopper wants has a major impact on what Dealership to buy from. Google shared this insight and other automotive marketing trends to help direct more effective Dealership online marketing strategies

Ranking in Google World

Disney World is it's own ecosystem.  Without a guide it's possible to stumble around their vast interconnected world and find what your're looking for.  So it is with Google World when it comes to getting your target customers to find your website:  They may find you eventually. With the proper guide...Search Engine Optimization - SEO...they'll find you more readily.

A lot's been written about SEO and the underlying Google Page Rank Algorithms.  As a Math lover, the technical side is interesting.  As a Marketer, how to optimize a website's page ranking is key!  Here's how I explain Search Engine Optimization to my Clients:

Google is hunting for Quality Content

Google is hunting for Quality Content.  I know that, you know that, your readers know that.  Most importantly, Google's Search Algorithm is looking for that.

I follow Jeff Bullas, an expert in the social side of digital marketing. He shared this Infographic in a recent post, 23 Hints for Creating Content that Google Loves.  One key insight: 61% of consumers are more likely to purchase goods from businesses that offer custom content.

Google is hunting for quality content...are you delivering?
