Reggae Marathon Blog Top 50

The Reggae Marathon Blog made it well into the Top 50 Marathon Blogs this year!  Whoa!  How did that happen?

You all know me as ThatRunninGuy.  I've been blogging about running for nearly 10 years.  It took a while to settle on running as my main interest.  Over the years I've blogged about cooking, business and just about everything in between.  Now each week I share what's on my mind about running. You've read about my injuries, recoveries, re-injuries and most recently lack of running performance. I love your reactions and feedback.  Keep it coming.

In another online world, I'm known as Reggae Marathon RunninGuy.  For the past 7 years I've been the Blogger behind the twice weekly blog posts and all the Social Media, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter.  I started with Reggae Marathon when the race organizers made a couple of decisions:  First, a major and more user-friendly website update and second, to use Social Media more actively to connect with runners from around the world.  We've grown from 1,000 runners back then to nearly maxed out 3,000 runners for 2017.

Reggae Marathon is now connected with runners from over 35 countries.  Runners plan their annual vacation to Negril in December so they can run in Reggae Maraton. Runners...go figure!  Runners come back year-after-year while staying in-touch online throughout the year.  Just ask Dan, Navin, Larry and I...we'll have a total of 30 combined Reggae Marathons between us!

I'm pretty humbled by the accolade Reggae Marathon received.  Sharing personal running stories, sharing life experiences, enjoying friendships on the beach...it's your stories shared on the blog that resonates.  Thank you for sharing!

Now let's get out for a run...

The Art of Business

The Art of Business...The Art of War.

In the Art of Business, it comes down to these 3 things:  Objectives, Strategies and Tactics. Objectives:  What customer problem do you want to solve.  Strategies:  How you will deliver those solutions.  Tactics: The specific steps in the solution process.

Put another way, if you are a Travel Agent and your client's objective is to get from Toronto to Montreal, you can suggest strategies such as taking a plane, train, or driving. If they have to be there in 2 hours, you sell them a plane ticket.

On to the Art of War.  If you've read the book you know the Sun-Tzu pulled no punches.  If you haven't, know that he pulls no punches!  There is one point that resonates strongly: "Opportunities multiply as they are seized".

Dad loved running

This past Sunday was Father's Day. No my Dad wasn't a runner but he loved that I was.

This Father's Day I was torn between emotions.  On one hand, I was sad recalling my own Father who passed away 9 years ago (This is one my favourite photos of Dad).  On the other, I was elatated thinking about my son and his wife who are three months away from having their first child.  Next year this time will be his first Father's Day and my first as Grandpa (Grandpa...yes, I think I'll go with that).

Reggae Marathon is woven into this story. My first and only Marathon was Reggae Marathon in 2009.  Since that beginning, I've grown into a number of relationships with runners from around the world who are now an inseperable part of my life.  I miss my Dad but can't thank him enough for inspiring me to make the trek with Sally to Negril and endure over 5 hours running in the mid-morning sun.  It wasn't even a thought that Navin, Dan, Larry, Karen, Deb and everyone else who I've connected with through Reggae Marathon would become so close.  Every December we great each other like it's the first time.  I never grow tired of that!

So...Trust the love, move to the inspiration...Happy Father's Day!

Until next time...

Do you love your customers?

Do you love your customers?  Well do you really?

A popular statement is 'We have a customer retention strategy".  What company today doesn't have one.  But customer retention is more than an automated email program, Google and Facebook Reviews and engaging with fans on Facebook.  Customer retention means listening to the customers concerns and working to solve them.

In retail, especially one as competitive as the automotive business, the next sale is highly influenced by how the customer is treated when she brings in her vehicle for service.  And when she has issues, how they are resolved.

So...do you LOVE your customers?

How to run farther and faster

How do you run farther and faster?  Aerobic running to build endurance! That's long and slow...conversational paced running at longer than normal distances added into your weekly running routines.  For more, here's a good video to explain the science:
See you on the road!

Digital Marketing Trends in 2017

The #1 trend so far through 2017 is Customer Loyalty.  The cost to retain a customer has always been less than the cost to acquire a new customer.  Growing choices in all product and service categories combined with virtually infinite online information sources has turned the after-sales service experience into the battleground of customer retention.  In the automotive retail business, the lot boy can influence the sale of your next vehicle!

Top 10 Exercise Myths

Top 10 Exercise Myths,  My favourite myth is #7:  You can eat whatever you want as long as you workout.  Wrong!  For those of you who run to eat cupcakes (or eat cupcakes to run), take heed!
