The Art of Business

The Art of Business...The Art of War.

In the Art of Business, it comes down to these 3 things:  Objectives, Strategies and Tactics. Objectives:  What customer problem do you want to solve.  Strategies:  How you will deliver those solutions.  Tactics: The specific steps in the solution process.

Put another way, if you are a Travel Agent and your client's objective is to get from Toronto to Montreal, you can suggest strategies such as taking a plane, train, or driving. If they have to be there in 2 hours, you sell them a plane ticket.

On to the Art of War.  If you've read the book you know the Sun-Tzu pulled no punches.  If you haven't, know that he pulls no punches!  There is one point that resonates strongly: "Opportunities multiply as they are seized".

Dad loved running

This past Sunday was Father's Day. No my Dad wasn't a runner but he loved that I was.

This Father's Day I was torn between emotions.  On one hand, I was sad recalling my own Father who passed away 9 years ago (This is one my favourite photos of Dad).  On the other, I was elatated thinking about my son and his wife who are three months away from having their first child.  Next year this time will be his first Father's Day and my first as Grandpa (Grandpa...yes, I think I'll go with that).

Reggae Marathon is woven into this story. My first and only Marathon was Reggae Marathon in 2009.  Since that beginning, I've grown into a number of relationships with runners from around the world who are now an inseperable part of my life.  I miss my Dad but can't thank him enough for inspiring me to make the trek with Sally to Negril and endure over 5 hours running in the mid-morning sun.  It wasn't even a thought that Navin, Dan, Larry, Karen, Deb and everyone else who I've connected with through Reggae Marathon would become so close.  Every December we great each other like it's the first time.  I never grow tired of that!

So...Trust the love, move to the inspiration...Happy Father's Day!

Until next time...

Do you love your customers?

Do you love your customers?  Well do you really?

A popular statement is 'We have a customer retention strategy".  What company today doesn't have one.  But customer retention is more than an automated email program, Google and Facebook Reviews and engaging with fans on Facebook.  Customer retention means listening to the customers concerns and working to solve them.

In retail, especially one as competitive as the automotive business, the next sale is highly influenced by how the customer is treated when she brings in her vehicle for service.  And when she has issues, how they are resolved.

So...do you LOVE your customers?

How to run farther and faster

How do you run farther and faster?  Aerobic running to build endurance! That's long and slow...conversational paced running at longer than normal distances added into your weekly running routines.  For more, here's a good video to explain the science:
See you on the road!

Until next time...
