Overcame the conditions in the Becel Ride for Heart today!

"Got er dun!"

At the start of the Becel Ride for Heart Sunday morning it was hard not to be emotional.  Here were 13,000 other people braving the cold, rain and wind to ride for someone they cared about who had been struck down by heart disease or stroke.

While we are coming up on two years since my Dad passed away and time does dull the feelings, that moment before heading off brought it all back.  I'm do this because I miss him terribly.  His sense of humour, story telling and love of life.  Damm!

The email below came a few hours after the ride.  You are welcome.  Thank you for the opportunity to help save lives.

Sally and Tia finished their first 5 km walk for the Heart & Stroke Foundation

That is one happy walker!

At the end of 5 km's last Saturday in Richmond in her first walking event, the Strides for Stroke walk in Richmond Hill, Sally couldn't have been happier.  Tia and I had a blast as well.

A few minutes before at the 4 km walk she asked the question, "Are we there yet?"  I assured her yes and that once she crossed the finish line she would want to do it again...

OK, maybe not this year.  But we have other fund raising activities planned for the rest of this year for our fundraising for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario.

Sally didn't walk alone.  Tia and I walked with her.  As you can see though she had a birds eye view of the proceedings.  A real princess that one.

Just before the sky opened up on our way back to the car.  Yes, the rain held off for the entire event.  If she could speak..."Hurry up you two, I'm tired....I want to go home"

Thank you for the donations.  We enjoyed the Strides for Stroke walk and plan to do it again next year.  Maybe we will even run it.

Donations still being accepted for the Heart & Stroke Foundation at our secure donation site:  DONTE TO HEART & STROKE HERE

Until next time...

Why we run/walk/cycle for our cause...its our personal best

I have been running for many years now. I started because I wanted to loose
weight and improve my health. I talk to a lot of people who feel the same
way.

But I keep running because it is my way of giving back. A lot of other
people feel the same way as this article in the Globe & Mail notes:
"Running for a cause can bring out personal best"
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/running/running-for-a-cause-can-bring-out-personal-best/article1550293/?service=email.

Sally feels the same way. We are walking in the 'Strides for Stroke' event
in Richmond Hill on May 1. It is for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of
Ontario. Since we have been affected by both heart disease and strokes on
both sides of our families, we felt this was an excellent cause to support.

You can support us by making a secure credit card donation directly to the
Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario on our behalf. Just click here:

Thank you and keep running...

Commitment to community

This resonates very strongly with us. Sally and I believe that if you have been fortunate in your life, you MUST give something back. And since we live in the 'richest community on the planet", we are compelled to do so.

But its not just about being philanthropic. It works in your business as well. This post from Josh Muirhead, one of Associates talks about the real value of 'giving" in your business.

Commitment to community

Comments welcome.
